Wake Up! Roseville: Rose-Colored Boy Music Video Review

Okay, so all week my friends and I have been waiting for Paramore to release their new music video for “Rose-Colored Boy” and it finally happened! February 5th 2018, Paramore released “Rose Colored Boy” on #NationalWeatherpersonsDay! I don’t know if that was intentional from the beginning, or if they caught on with it later and decided to release it then, but it’s hilarious! All week long Paramore has teased us with pictures, puns, and short clips from the video. It honestly annoyed me at first that I was going to know the theme of the music video before it came out— but after watching it, you’ll see that there’s so much more to this video than ever before. So many things to see that you can’t see from merely a picture. Paramore gets REAL. It was emotional watching Hayley feel the pressures of being apart of a band, being the front woman, and even just being a woman. People like Hayley are expected to smile even when she doesn’t feel like smiling. In this video she battled with herself to be authentic, to be real, to not be “Fake Happy”. Zac and Taylor were amazing in the video as well. All of them are great actors even being silent, they really portrayed their characters. Their facial expressions were hilarious. I loved that this video was set in the eighties too, with all of their hair *and facial hair* on point. The clothing and makeup was perfect (no surprise) thanks to Brian, Paramore’s hair and makeup artist, who even had a cameo in the video! (It was one of my favorite parts to see him in action—even back then). Lindsey Byrnes was also featured in the music video. She’s done photography for Paramore for years. I loved her cute little hair style and her part talking with Hayley between takes. What really hit the heartstrings was when Hayley faced her past, seeing the little girl she once was and how passionate she used to be about her future career. She finally snapped and gave everyone her authentic self (included in the lyrics) as she performed Billy O’Reilly’s famous freak out. As I predicted, this *in my opinion* is Paramore’s best music video so far. It was incredibly engaging. It told a story and a great message not only for people in the spotlight, but for everyone. You won’t be comfortable until you’re you. Thank you Paramore so much for this video. Parafam loves and appreciates you xx
